Seven Bolles sophomores were nominated to test for the Joe Berg Seminars of Jacksonville series. The Joe Berg Seminars of Jacksonville, a two-year academic experience, offers 12 seminars annually between September and May in each of the humanities and sciences.

Joe Berg Scholars receive no credit for participation in the seminar program, but gain stimulation and knowledge beyond the scope of a high school’s curriculum. Local experts from a variety of fields, which can range from space exploration to medical research, deliver presentations to participating scholars.

Associate Head of School/Academic Dean Scott Smith announced the students during the School’s Second Quarter Convocation on January 21 in Davis Gym.

The following Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus sophomores were nominated:

These students may have the opportunity to participate in 27 to 36 hours of college level lecture and discussion. Participants are nominated by their high schools in the fall of their sophomore year, based upon their GPA and demonstrated interest in enrichment. The nominees then sit for a rigorous examination in either the sciences or humanities. About 50 students from approximately 15 public and private Jacksonville high schools are admitted into the program each year. The Joe Berg graduation ceremony is held in the middle of the students’ senior year.
