SAN MARCO CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY OPENS A BRAND NEW SEASON WITH A BENEFIT CONCERT ON SEPTEMBER 13 FOR THE JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Musicians Present Free Concert to Help Find a Cure for Diabetes
August 17, 2009, JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, Jacksonville Symphony musicians Eric and Ellen Olson have a personal stake in finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. Their 13 year old daughter, Gina, has had type 1 diabetes for nearly 11 years. Her disease is well-controlled, but she requires around the clock monitoring of her blood sugar levels and constant adjusting of insulin doses.
Eric, the principal oboist of the JSO, and Ellen, a violist, have a tradition of presenting benefit concerts for diabetes research. This year the benefit concert has been incorporated into their new chamber music series, the San Marco Chamber Music Society. The concert is free, and a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. All donations up to $200 will be matched by Thrivent for Lutherans.
The program will take place at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3976 Hendricks Avenue at 7PM on September 13, 2009 and will include pieces by J.S. Bach, Camille Saint-Saens, Telemann, and others. Eric and Ellen Olson, plus violinist Ruxandra Marquardt and pianist Paul Marquardt will perform.
