The Weekend Edition

After the mid-week excitement of Cinco de Mayo it’s time to get out and enjoy the weekend.

Outdoor Entertainment: This Friday in San Marco boasts two great outdoor events. The San Marco Preservation Society’s spring concert in the park at 6:00 p.m. Cloud 9 will be headlining, wood fire pizzas and ice cream will be on sale, Dance Trance will be doing a special performance, and face painters will be on hand. The semi-annual concert is held at Fletcher Park, 1652 Atlantic boulevard. Movies in the Park is screening the last movie of this years series at Treaty Oak Park. Breakfast at Tiffany’s begins at dusk. Free parking is available at the Suddath Building.

Golf: TPC. Enough said.

Sunday Stroll – Shops and restaurants are open in San Marco on Sunday. Enjoy shopping in your favorite stores and a delicious brunch at Taverna.

It might be raining right now but the weekend is going to be sunny and warm. Get out and enjoy it.

See: Back to the Future at Treaty Oak Park tonight at dusk (around 8:00 p.m.). Back to the Future is the 3rd of DVI’s 4 movie series – Movies in the Park. Bring a picnic or buy food there. Movies are free to the public and free parking is available at the Suddath Building.

Free Yoga: Brenda Star Walker, of Bliss Yoga, will be hosting a free 20 minute yoga class in Balis Park, the gazebo in the center of San Marco Square. The class is open to all ages and all abilities. Pulp is offering 20% juices to all class participants. The yoga class is part of San Marco Preservation Society’s ongoing Saturdays in the Square series.

Underwood’s has hidden a diamond ring somewhere in Jacksonville and they are hosting a scavenger hunt this Saturday to find the ring. Register today to join the scavenger hunt to find the $15,000 prize ring. Spots are limited.

Underwood’s will send clues via text message to any phone on any service provider. All couples or teams of 2 ages 18 and over are welcome to register. Scavenger hunt spots are free but you must be pre-registered and win a spot in the hunt. The hunt kicks off this Saturday, May 1 at noon a the Jacksonville Suns Baseball Club, get it baseball diamond as the meeting spot to find a hidden diamond.

It’s been a busy week in San Marco filled with Earth Day events, block parties, wine dinners. If you are not completely exhausted and ready for more fun, lots to do this weekend.

SEE: Sixteen Candles is tonight’s Movie in the Park hosted by Downtown Vision. The movie will be shown in Treaty Oak Park, on Prudential Avenue. The movie starts at dusk. Bring your blankets, chairs, and a picnic or get take-out on your way.

THINK: Theatre Jacksonville debuts The Maltese Bodkin tonight. Part who done it, part Shakespeare, the Maletese Bodkin follows Detective Birnam Wood as he searches for the killer of his partner.

PLAY BALL: Hendricks Avenue Baseball dominates Saturdays in the spring. Come out and support the home team.

Thursday Nights Heating Up in San Marco

The merchants and bars/restaurants in the Square are the places to be on Thursday nights. Drinks specials, evening shopping, live music are all happening tonight in San Marco Square.Join the Affair in the Square.

T.A.G. is hosting their Spring Block Party tonight from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Listen to live music, sample new menu items, enjoy beers, wine and a signature cocktail on the patio. T.A.G. block parties are always packed and always fun. Admission is $25 per person.

The Weekend Edition 4.16 – 4.18

Your weekend round-up of all there is to see and do in San Marco.

See: Downtown Vision is hosting Movies in the Park again this spring. Four movies will be shown at Treaty Oak Park over the next two months.  Tonight is Shrek, the first in the series. The movie begins at dusk. Bring your blankets, chairs, and a picnic and the kids and well behaved pets. Food vendors will be on-site or you can pick-up take away from your favorite San Marco restaurant. Free parking in the Suddath Building.

Sail: San Marco Preservation Society and North Florida O.R.C.A.S. are hosting The Annual Rain Gutter Regatta. Boats can be purchased at Hobby Town and must be assembled in advance. Sail a boat or watch the action at Colonial Manor Lake Park on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Move: Saturdays in the Square is hooping it up this weekend. Hula Hoop activities for kids of all ages from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in Balis Park, the gazebo in the heart of San Marco Square. Bring your video camera to record your hula hooping and post your video to You Tube for a chance to win a prize for best hula hooping video.

Eat: If you missed last Sunday’s brunch at Taverna, try it out this week. And enjoy some shopping at the stores now open on Sunday afternoons in the Square.

Affair in the Square Tonight

At Thursday night’s Affair in the Square you can shop in a number of stores until 9:00 p.m., and when you’re finished shopping enjoy live entertainment and drink specials at bars and restaurants. That’s an affair we want to be part of.

Taverna Kicks Off First Ever Happy Hour at Affair in the Square Tonight

The “Affair in the Square” in San Marco Square tonight will be host to a lot of firsts, the first time some of the shops have been open till 9:00 p.m., the first time there will be live music at three locations in San Marco at the same time, and the first Taverna Happy Hour.

Thankfully the folks at Taverna recognize that happy hour is really more than one hour and will be hosting Happy Hour from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday through Saturday. Taverna signature cocktails and calzones offered at special prizes, served in the bar and patio will make for a very happy two hours at Taverna.

The Grotto, Pizza Palace, Square One, Matthew’s, and T.A.G. will also be joining in the “Affair in the Square” with food and drink specials and entertainment. Rosie True, Three Lions, Peterbrooke, Olive, Reve, Pulp, Therapie, Leila’s, and San Marco Bookstore will be open until 9:00.

Golden Easter Egg Hunt

Grace Family Church in San Marco is sponsoring a Golden Easter Egg Hunt at Hendricks Avenue Elementary School. The Egg Hunt begins at noon tomorrow, Saturday, April 3rd. All children under the age of 11 are welcome to join the hunt for candy filled eggs and one golden egg with a very special prize. Hendricks Avenue Elementary is located at 3400 Hendricks Avenue.
