bluezoneBlue Zone Winners – #51 – Lego Twins
“Jax Protons”:  This exhibit is modeled after an actual proton radiation facility, the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute (UFPTI) located in Jacksonville, Florida.  The model depicts a patient receiving a proton radiation treatment for a brain tumor.  The Proton beam originates from the cyclotron, is transmitted along the beam line and is delivered to the patient via a large rotating gantry.  The patient is lying in the gantry while physicians and technicians in the control room booth are administering the treatment.  Engineers are performing maintenance on the equipment while other patients sit in the waiting room, awaiting there own treatment ….

ThoughtbotsRobitics Zone  Winners- #  – Thought Bots (A. Saxena, A. Sreeram, A. Gupta, & R. Venkata)
“Braille Bot” (excerpt from entry description) –  How it works:  Our robot is programmed to move through the course by following a black line, which simulates staying in a lane.  The robot uses the ultrasonic sensor to keep a save distance away from other cans and objects.  There is another color sensor we are using to read and react to traffic signals.  All of these solutions solve problems visually impaired people face while driving…

teamfranklinNoteworthy:  2nd place in the green zone – Team Franklin

This was the Franklin boys 5th Mosh competition as the Fiery Franklins and Leo’s (7) first year as a team member. Ned Franklin is 11 and Henry Franklin is 9. They came 2nd in the green Zone which is the 6-9th grade zone. The zone is determined by the age of the eldest competitor. They made an Earth Quake in San Francisco Earth Quake.

They have chalked up 2 firsts and 2 seconds across the years by building disaster scenes.
