Square One celebrated its tenth anniversary on the Square in San Marco last Saturday night by hosting a big party and waived cover charge for guests all evening long. The fun began at 6:00pm with the Sinatra cover band, Class Act. The crowd arrived steadily, casually enjoying the music and soon, people began to dance. Class Act played its signature great music until 9:00pm and had a good group of people enjoying drinks, dancing, or just listening while chatting with friends. Upstairs, some guests were shooting pool in the billiards room, while others who were there for a VIP reception lingered in the lounge area.
At 9:00, the D.J. spun tunes while models for local boutiques Rosie True, Therapie, and Reve, made final preparations for their walk down Square One’s “runway” for a fashion show. The club’s staircase was the perfect place to make an entrance. People gathered on the main floor to watch as the models descended, gorgeous in hair, beautifully made up, and dressed in lovely clothes. They modeled the most current of casual, and special occasion wear from each of the three San Marco boutiques.
At about 10:00, local Jacksonville band KLOB started to play; the lights were dimmed, the dance floor filling up right way. People were swaying to the music while the lighting pulsed about the room. It was a full house for Square One, black and white balloons festooning the main floor, indicating this was no ordinary Saturday night. Ten years in San Marco, Square One is a favorite spot for nightlife in town. Some of the people in the house told us that they come in for a drink several times a week. It’s a place that has both a club vibe, and to many, is a familiar place in the neighborhood for regular stop-ins. Congratulations to Square One for being an integral part of the community for a decade!
