Last Thursday’s Affair in the Square for December was all about holiday music in Balis Park, mixed with a few dance numbers that some of the children pranced about to, excitedly.   The glorious Christmas tree was the focal point, majestic, under the golden light of the gazebo at night.  It’s Christmastime in San Marco!

Shoppers and friends meandered in and out of the boutiques that were open late, enjoying the wine tasting at the various boutiques, having their passports stamped for the Affair’s grand prize and some, no doubt doing a bit of last minute holiday shopping.  It was a balmy evening for December so many were enjoying meals al fresco (with the added comfort of the heat lamps!) at Taverna.  It was a truly a wonderful evening to be out on the Square, meeting friends and enjoying the holidays.  Have you taken the time to really look at the lovely window displays that our unique shops and boutiques arrange for the holidays?  It’s a real treat to see how each shop decorates its windows for the holidays; what a lovely mix of storefronts line the beautiful Square of our community.

Affair in the Square will continue as a monthly celebration in 2011.  Mark your calendars for the third Thursday of each month and plan to come out for some fun.  There’ll always be music, wine tastings, face paintings for the kids by Pink Ivy, and many of our off-Square merchants set up tables with special treats, too.  It’s community-oriented, family-friendly, something-for-everyone, monthly get together!  The white Chinese lanterns are strung in the trees to make it festive, most of the shops are open late with many offering a little something special, and there’ll always be entertainment in Balis Park.  See you next year, at January’s Affair in the Square!
