Furniture options in San Marco just got a lot simpler with the grand opening of Nest Living, a furniture store offering the best of mid-century classic furniture. Mid-century furniture is a departure for ornamental furniture, focusing instead on clean design and unique, quality materials. Renowned brands like Alessi, Tivoli, Louis Poulsen, Skagerak, Herman Miller and Knoll exemplify mid-century design. Nest Living showcases all these designers and many more. In fact, Nest Living is the local dealer for Knoll and Herman Miller.
We spoke with Shaan, the proprietor of Nest Living, about the store and their recent move to San Marco. An Australian native, Shaan has been in the states for about ten years. He brings a modern approach to home furnishing.
MSM: Why did you decide to move to San Marco?
Shaan: I needed more space to showcase additional furniture. I saw this building and loved it. The building really fit my business.
MSM: What is your favorite thing about San Marco?
Shaan: The proximity to downtown.
MSM: What is the one piece people should invest in for their home right now?
Shaan: A great lounge chair. When you buy a quality lounge chair, it will last forever, especially if you buy a classic. I advise every one to research and learn about furniture designers. Once you learn more about the designers, furniture becomes art.
Nest Living is located in the same building as Hightide Burrito on Hendricks Avenue, across the street from the tennis courts. The sign will be going up soon. until then turn in at Hightide and go to the end of the building. You can’t miss it.
