Earth Day Grant – JLCP

The Julia Landon College Preparatory School PTSA has received an Earth Day Mini Grant in the amount of $500. The Earth Day Mini Grant was written and submitted by Mrs. Julie Titus, an active member of the JLCP PTSA. The Earth Day Mini Grant was awarded based on criteria including innovative ideas, educational value and the degree of impact in our community.

The 6th grade students at JLCP will implement a project based learning activity titled: Project Weather Station. With the grant, the teachers will be able to purchase equipment including thermometers, barometers, and anemometers. The equipment will be used by the students in the Fall of 2013 to as they participate in hands on learning activities.

The Project Weather Station was developed collaboratively with the JCLP science teachers. The teachers analyzed 8th grade science benchmark data. The benchmark data indicated that students needed enhanced instruction with the 6th grade science benchmarks on weather patterns.

The grant check was accepted by the JLCP PTSA at the Jacksonville Landing on Saturday April 20, 2013.
