With the first named storm of the season already past us, I thought it might be a good idea to look into our hurricane evacuation route. Hopefully we will never need to use it, but I would guess that if the situation should arise internet access would not be too prevalent. Considering I don’t own a map and don’t really know where to buy one in a hurry, the least I could do was take a look at the City’s hurricane website to know where I should be going if told to evacuate.
Turns out it is pretty intuitive and probably where most of us would have headed anyway. Residents of Southeast Jacksonville are instructed to take I-95 to 17 to 10 and head west. As west as needed to escape a hurricane. You can view the evacuation routes by storm surge zone on the City’s hurricane preparedness website.
