Hendricks Avenue at Nira Street railroad crossing to temporarily close

railroadclosureJacksonville – Hendricks Avenue is scheduled to close in both directions Sunday, June 28 through Wednesday, July 1 while the railroad crossing south of Nira Street is replaced, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The road closes June 28 at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen July 1 by 7 p.m. The reopening date can change due to rain or other unforeseen conditions. The road can be reopened early if the work is completed ahead of schedule. Call 888-558-1518 for updates on the reopening.

Drivers traveling south on Hendricks Avenue will be detoured to Nira Street, San Marco Boulevard and Lasalle Street. Drivers traveling north on Hendricks will be detoured to Cedar Street, San Marco Boulevard and Nira Street. Law enforcement officers will assist with the road closure and detour.

Florida East Coast Railroad, Inc. will replace the existing railroad crossing with a concrete crossing designed to last longer and hold up better under heavy traffic. Crews will resurface the area once the crossing is replaced.

An average of 14,600 vehicles travel this section of Hendricks Avenue daily.
