Through January 10 – Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural DisastersCome explore natural disasters through stunning displays, state-of-the-art animations, poignant, large-scale images, and cultural artifacts that reveal the dynamic relationship we have with the Earth. The exhibit focuses on four types of disasters – earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and tornadoes and how these phenomena are the spectacular results of the forces that drive our ever-changing planet. Nature Unleashed will be on display until January 10, 2016.

Fridays – $5 Fridays  Every Friday, come to MOSH to enjoy $5 admission and extended hours. The Museum is open late ‘til 8 p.m. (Note:  Additional discounts or coupons are not permitted.)

January 1 – MOSH Closed – MOSH will be closed New Year’s Day.

January 8 – Friday Night Cosmic Concerts – Experience total sensory entertainment as laser lights, high-def images and digital sound collide to create a Cosmic Concert!  Catch Ipop at 7 p.m., U2 at 8 p.m., Hypnotica at 9 p.m., and Wish You Were Here at 10 p.m.  Each concert costs $5 per person; $1 for laser glasses.  Tickets are available online at www.themosh.org or at the door. 

January 9 – Boy Scout Workshop: Citizenship in the Community – Discover what it takes to be a good citizen in your community. Learn the rights, duties, and obligations of citizenship, and how you can demonstrate good citizenship in your community. The workshop is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is $30 per scout. Scout leaders are free. Register at www.themosh.org.

January 13 – Little Learners: Wild Weather – Whoosh goes the wind! Crack goes the lightening! Let’s put on our listening ears and see if we can identify the wild sounds of weather!  Bring your little ones to MOSH the second Wednesday of every month for exclusive programming for preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Doors open early at 9:30 a.m. for private Little Learners Museum time followed by circle time and programming until 11:30 a.m. Admission is only $5 per person (ages 3 & up). This program is extremely popular, please pre-register at www.themosh.org. *Please be aware that the Nature Unleashed exhibit will close on January 10, 2016*

January 16– Retro Game Night –  Take your game night to a new level with Giant Jenga, Clue, Battleship, Candy Land, Twister, video games in the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium, and more at MOSH’s Retro Game Night presented in partnership with GAAM (Games Arts And Music). Dress up in your best retro outfit and enjoy free nostalgic snacks, $1 to $2 pizza slices and cash bar while you play your favorite childhood board games from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $5 and FREE for MOSH Members. January 18 – MOSH honors MLK Day – Come learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. Listen to the ringing and moving words of his “I Have a Dream” speech, tell us about your dreams, and help us create a collage in this fun and interactive activity! Children and adults of all ages welcome. Attendance included with general museum admission.

January 20 – Homeschool Day: No Such Thing as Cold – ‘There’s no such thing as cold?’ What does that even mean? It’s January after all! We feel the cold. Learn the subtle science of temperature. Together we will bend your idea of what hot and cold are utilizing demonstrations and experiments in our JEA Science Theater. Later we will visit the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium to see what temperature means to celestial objects in our universe. Programs are appropriate for elementary-aged students. However, all ages are welcome to attend. Time is included to explore the Museum. Doors open at 9 a.m. to tour the Museum. The program begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. Cost is $8 per student and parent or $5 for member students and free for Member parents. Register online at www.themosh.org.

January 22 – One Day Fun Day Camp: Cultural Fusion’s Lift Every Voice – What makes Jacksonville great? It’s you! Learn about our community’s diverse history, cultures, and peoples as we become explorers in our neighborhood and uncover how everyone is special in their own way in this celebration of individuality and cultural fusion. Camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Extended care is available.  Cost is $60; MOSH Members receive a 20% discount.  Register at www.themosh.org.

January 23 – LEGO® Competition – Ready…Set…Build!  Kindergarteners through 9th graders will battle it out in a LEGO® Competition designed to foster creativity and promote science education. Participants will work in teams or as individuals to build original LEGO® designs for the chance to win great prizes! The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and sells out quickly. January 28 – MOSH After Dark: Bacardi House Party – SOLD OUT! Do you want to learn how to host a great House party (Cocktail Party) with what you already have lying around the house?  MOSH and the scientists from Bacardi are hosting a hands-on workshop to help you create unique or classic cocktails using everyday utensils, household gadgets, and ingredients from your pantry.  You will learn the science behind cocktail components and time-honored mixology tricks. Become your own home’s mixologist. Cost is $30; MOSH Members receive a 20% discount.  Program begins at 6:30 p.m. Bacardi House Party is part of MOSH After Dark, a fun series of adult programs presented each month.

January 30 – Girl Scout Workshop: Juniors Flowers – SOLD OUT! – Flower Power! In this workshop scouts will uncover the amazing way that plants are able to multiply. In spring time we can see and smell these beautiful blooms, and now it is time to take a closer look at flowers. The workshop will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and cost is $12 per scout. February 6 – Water Education Festival – Join the City of Jacksonville, MOSH, and the St. Johns Riverkeeper for this Public Day at MOSH with FREE admission sponsored by the Environmental Protection Board of the City of Jacksonville.  Guests will celebrate one of our most precious resources, the St. Johns River, as they enjoy activities, presentations and guided boat tours along the St. Johns River (first-come, first-served) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit www.themosh.org.

February 10 – Little Learners: Bugs – Be a little entomologist as we learn about our insect friends. View some of our creepy, crawly, critters from our living collection and make bugs in our community learning activity! Bring your little ones to MOSH the second Wednesday of every month for exclusive programming for preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for private Museum exploration, followed by Little Learners circle time and sing-along, programming and community learning activities through 11:30. February 13 – Bella Luna: Forever Young – Put on your best neon or ’80s prom dress and members only jacket, tease your hair and throw on some Ray-Ban sunglasses for a blast from the past that’s going to be totally awesome! MOSH’s annual Valentine’s event, Bella Luna, is celebrating the ’80s in all its glory. Dance under the disco ball to the decade’s best and sample the variety of food tables presented by some of Jacksonville’s best restaurants. Bella Luna will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Reservations and pre-payment are required; all guests must be 21 and up.  Tickets are $90 per couple which includes beer and wine, MOSH Members receive a 20% discount and priority registration. February 17 – Homeschool Day: The Story of Circulation – In sticking with the Valentine’s Day theme, let’s have a Homeschool Day straight from the heart and focus on human circulation!  Join us for demonstrations and activities that help students learn about the makeup and role of the blood in our body as well as the vessels and the oh-so-famous pump that steer and push blood through its journey.  Programs are appropriate for elementary-aged students. However, all ages are welcome to attend. Time is included to explore the Museum. Doors open at 9 a.m. to tour the Museum. The program begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. Cost is $8 per student and parent or $5 for member students and free for Member parents. Register online at www.themosh.org.

February 20 – Girl Scout Camp In: Brownies Inventor – Spend a night in the Museum, conduct design challenges, and learn about product creation at our Inventors Camp In. You’ll put your original ideas to the test and meet women who do that every day while creating products within the engineering industry! The Camp In begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $35 per scout and scout leader; 1 leader per 6 scouts required. Includes a late-night pizza snack and continental breakfast. February 20 – Boy Scout Workshop: Citizenship in the Nation – Scouts will learn how to become active citizens who are aware of and grateful for their liberties and rights. Understand the need to participate in their government, how to protect their freedom, and the importance of standing up for individual rights on behalf of all its citizens. The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is $30 per scout. Scout leaders are free. Register at www.themosh.org.

February 25 – MOSH After Dark: Jazz under the Stars – Sit back, relax, and enjoy LIVE jazz music as you get lost in an immersive planetarium show taking you from the skies over Jacksonville to the edge of the known universe. Cost is $10; MOSH Members receive a 20% discount.  Program begins at 6:30 p.m. Jazz under the Stars is part of MOSH After Dark, a fun series of adult programs presented each month. February 25 & 26 – Jacksonville Science Festival at FSCJ South Campus – On these two days, the Jacksonville Science Festival will be at the FSCJ South Campus presenting student work and entertainment for other schools to visit on STEM-based field trips.  MOSH will present science information and demonstrations at a booth on these days.  Find out more at jacksonvillesciencefestival.com.

February 27 – Jacksonville Science Festival at Friendship Fountain – Join MOSH and all of the students, teachers, experts, organizations, local businesses and community partners who will present this year’s Jacksonville Science Festival in MOSH’s backyard, Friendship Fountain Park.  The outdoor event is a student-focused, STEAM-driven festival.  Admission to the outdoor festival is free.  If you are interested in participating as a facilitator of a student group, contact MOSH at 904.396.MOSH (6674), ext. 243.  Find out more at jacksonvillesciencefestival.com.

March 2 – Little Learners: Dr. Seuss’s Birthday – Hip hip hooray…it’s Dr. Seuss’s birthday! Join MOSH for a special Little Learners as we celebrate all things Seuss through learning activities and readings of our favorite books! You could not, would not, want to miss a celebration quite like this one. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. with programming until 11:30 a.m. Admission is only $5 per person (ages 3 & up). March 9 – Little Learners: Space – Ready, set, blast off! Join us for an out of this world adventure as we wear our pajamas and read “The Rocket Ship Bed Trip.” Meet the local author Nancy Sinatsch and explore the universe in our kid-friendly version of the planetarium show Tour of the Solar System. Bring your little ones to MOSH the second Wednesday of every month for exclusive programming for preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for private Museum exploration, followed by Little Learners circle time and sing-along, programming and community learning activities through 11:30. March 12 – America’s Girls Camp In – It’s time for a mommy and me girls’ night out!  Help MOSH ring in Women’s History Month with this Mother/Daughter Camp In! Journey through historic milestones in American History and learn what life was like for these American girls through crafts, games, and activities.  Moms bring your girls; girls bring your dolls and take part in a Mommy, Dolly, and Me Fashion Show! Sit down to tea, craft a picture frame, and more in a night of memory making and empowering young girls! American Girl Dolls and dolls of any variety welcome. The Camp In begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $35 per person which includes a late-night pizza snack and continental breakfast. MOSH Members receive 20% off.

March 12Boy Scout Workshop: Citizenship in the World – Scouts will discover that they are already citizens of the world. They will recognize that being a good a world citizen depends on their willingness to understand and appreciate the values, traditions, and concerns of people in other countries. March 16 – Homeschool Day: Women in Science – Despite the historic obstacles, women have made quite an impact on science.  Young ladies and gentlemen are both welcome to join us for this month’s Homeschool Day as we travel through history to empathize with some challenges faced and understand the science behind the incredible discoveries that have been made by women through the years.  Take a trip across the solar system to understand the influence women have had on our knowledge of the universe. This program is in celebration of Women’s History Month and the impact women have had on science and technology. Programs are appropriate for elementary-aged students. However, all ages are welcome to attend. Time is included to explore the Museum. Doors open at 9 a.m. to tour the Museum. March 21 – 25 – Spring Discovery Camps: MOSH Moments – Kindergarteners through 5th graders, take a blast through time and journey back 75 years to learn about the history of our region during Spring Discovery Camp at MOSH. Campers will work throughout the week on a time capsule and create pieces to be displayed at the Museum in celebration of its 75th anniversary. In addition to delving into the week-long topic, campers will get to explore Museum exhibits and attend science shows in the JEA Science Theater and the Florida Naturalist’s Center. Camps are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are $195 for the week.  MOSH Members receive a 20% discount. March 31 – MOSH After Dark: Gastro Science with Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse – There is always room to experiment in the kitchen and the experts at Ruth Chris will be giving demonstrations and tips on how to wow your next dinner guests. Learn what pairs great together and pick up some tricks for your own kitchen.
