3rd Annual Clay Roberts Memorial Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

In River Or Ocean has  announced The Third Annual Clay Roberts Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament scheduled for Saturday June 12th, 2010 is being moved to it’s new home at Beach Marine, located at 2315 Beach Boulevard at the Intracoastal Waterway.  The Clay Roberts Memorial In-Shore Slam Fishing Tournament is held each year on the second Saturday in June.  The Inaugural Tournament was held June 14th, 2008 with 91 boats participating and several hundred people attending the on-shore activities.  While many tournaments suffered with the economy in 2009, the Second Annual Clay Roberts Memorial Tournament once again was a complete success with 90 boats participating.  Thanks to the generosity and hard work of many friends and supporters the Tournament has become one of the favorites among fisherman and their families.

Clay Roberts was a Jacksonville native growing up in Ortega. Clay died on March 21, 2007 as a senior at Bishop Kenny High School.  Clay had a lifelong love for the outdoors.  He was an avid fisherman and he loved boating.  Clay once wrote, “Being in a boat is one of my absolute favorite things to do.”   He often talked of having a career revolving around boating, fishing and conservation.  His e-mail address “InRiverOrOcean” best expressed his passion for our waterways.  In his honor, Clay’s family created a non-profit organization called “In River Or Ocean” which supports environmental education through integrating existing conservation programs with an annual memorial scholarship and parent-child fishing tournament.  Clay’s Tournament was created to bring families and friends together, spending time on the water, while sustaining the memory of Clay in our community.

All proceeds from the tournament are used to fund the Clay Roberts Memorial Scholarship at Bishop Kenny High School.  The Clay Roberts Memorial Scholarship is rewarded to a graduating senior each year who emulates Clay’s spirit and values; who through their demonstrated involvement makes a difference in the lives of others.  Brendan Coster was chosen this year as the recipient of the scholarship and he was awarded the scholarship on May 20, 2010.

Join the fun at the Third Annual Clay Roberts Memorial Inshore Slam Fishing Tournament at its new home, Beach Marine.  Bring the family for a day of fun on the water and discover the “magic” that Clay found in our rivers and oceans.  For more information go to FishWithClay.com or call 904-384-0775.
